I’ve been immersed in the event operations scene in Aotearoa since 2015, and it all started with volunteer management – my bread and butter. Over the years I’ve worn many hats, from Artist Liaison to Event Manager, but crew coordination is what I’ve become known for. It’s where the people magic happens, and it’s the part I keep coming back to. Repeatedly. Relentlessly. Possibly irrationally.
In fact, it’s possible that I may be the most experienced volunteer coordinator in the country – mainly because, as far as I can tell, I’m the only one mad enough to keep coming back year after year. I’ve worked with boutique events, sprawling multi-day festivals, and everything in between, constantly refining how we manage crew in high-pressure, high-paced environments. I’ve dealt with spreadsheets, message chains, and more chaos than I care to count – yearning for a kind of software that didn’t exist (I checked, several times).
